What Is IELTS?
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the world's most popular English language proficiency test for higher education and global migration, with over 4.0 million tests taken in 2023.
IELTS lets you select the best Colleges, Universities and academic programs globally. A higher IELTS score increases your chances of obtaining the visa tremendously.
IELTS has been developed by some of the world's leading language assessment experts and tests the full range of English skills needed for success in your new job or study placement abroad.
⏱ Score validity: 2 years from the date of the test.
Why Students Score
Low in IELTS
Most IELTS candidates underperform not because of weak English, but because of avoidable strategic and preparation mistakes.
Poor Time Management in Writing
Spending too long on Task 1 leaves no time for Task 2, which carries double the marks. Most students lose a full band just from time misallocation.
Not Reading the Question Carefully
Answering what you think is asked instead of what is actually asked is the #1 Reading trap. Skimming questions leads to choosing plausible but wrong answers.
Rehearsed Speaking Answers
Examiners are trained to detect memorised responses. Scripted answers lead to immediate band reduction under Lexical Resource and Fluency criteria.
Losing Focus During Listening
One moment of distraction means missing a question — and the recording never repeats. Students who don't pre-read questions while audio plays consistently underperform.
Ignoring Task Achievement in Writing
A grammatically perfect essay that misses the task prompt receives a low Task Achievement score, capping the entire Writing band — no matter how good the vocabulary.
Repeating Words Instead of Paraphrasing
Lifting words directly from the question into answers signals limited vocabulary range. IELTS rewards academic paraphrase — a skill that must be deliberately practised.
Insufficient Practice with Timed Mocks
Reading and understanding content in a relaxed environment is very different from performing under exam pressure. Students who skip timed mocks always underestimate the difficulty.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, and Duolingo preparation — and what to expect from EduQuest.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is the world's most popular English proficiency test, accepted by over 11,000 organisations globally. It is designed for people who want to study, work, or migrate to English-speaking countries such as the UK, Australia, Canada, USA, and New Zealand.
IELTS Academic is required for undergraduate or postgraduate study at a university and for professional registration in medicine or nursing. IELTS General Training is suited for secondary education, work experience, or immigration to English-speaking countries. Both share the same Listening and Speaking tests, but differ in Reading and Writing tasks.
Most universities require a minimum of Band 6.5 to 7.0 for postgraduate admission, while undergraduate programmes typically accept Band 6.0. Immigration pathways usually ask for Band 6.0 to 7.0. Our champion batches are specifically designed to take students from their current level to Band 7.5–8.0+.
IELTS scores are valid for two years from the date of the test. After two years, scores are no longer considered a reliable reflection of your current English proficiency, and you will need to retake the test if required.
There is no limit to how many times you can take IELTS. Tests are offered up to four times a month at most test centres, so you can retake as often as you need. Each attempt is independent, and institutions will typically consider your highest score.
